Excerpt from a note Jim wrote to his nephew Nien-hę and his wife Sara about the inspiration for four of the songs on Blue Horizon:

“Nien and Sara’s Waltz ——    vocal, guitar, harmonica: Jim      Thank YOU for THE inspiration!
Blue Horizon —— vocal, guitar: Jim.  steel guitar: Al Perkins.  bass: Mike Bowden     Cristina, a very close friend, went home to Spain recently.  I wrote this song partly because I miss her although she’s married and I am also good friends with her husband Manolo.  I just made it into a romantic song.
Listen to the Rain —–  vocal, guitar, harmonica: Jim   This expresses  how I would like to live, partly inspired by the prayer of St. Francis and other Bodhisattvas, as God’s instrument.
Jethro Handy – co-written with my friend Tom Sturdevant. I first wrote this gong as a protest against the hypocrisy of/and the death penalty in TN.  Tom suggested that I should apply it to the nation as a whole.  vocal, guitar: Jim  keyboard: Tom “

Thanks for allowing us to experience Jim’s music. I have not hear these before except maybe one? My wife Sheila and I shared tears and laughter until 6:30 this morning listening to his songs as we attempt to find pictures of Jim in years back. Will have to buy his CD so I listen to it in our car or on our cd player without having to fire up the computer. I am again reminded how talented he was! Now if I can only buy a piece of his art!

I first met Jim at Toby’s Country Cooking in Franklin. We had country music band playing on friday night”Jim ask could he come and sing a couple of songs with the band.I told him that he was welcome to come and that i would see him on Friday night”but i thought that he could no way sing country music. When he got up to sing I couldnt believe my ears he sang country music as well as anyone in the band (moral of the story you cant judge a book by looking at the cover). My life and Jims continued to cross paths musicly several times through out the last 8 years. It was an honor to have met Jim and I enjoyed performing with him on stage “what a great person and we will all miss him.
