New Gallery – Sep 2009

Tony Wu came to Nashville, set up professional lighting, and took beautiful photos of a big chunk of Jim’s work.  Brent is posting those photos in an online gallery.  Here is the link:

Tennessean Article

September 30, 2008

Last month, Rudy and Tony pointed out that the article about Jim’s memorial service had been removed from the Tennessean’s website and sent along a copy.  Click on the small version below to see it fullsize.

Also last month was the annual Tomato Art Fest – the first without a submission from Jim.  Jim’s witty and beautifully executed tomato works were high points of previous shows.  The BLT Attacks painting in the Friends of Jim Hsieh flickr account is one example.

This month Brent completed the 2008 Pacific Grove Triathlon and dedicated his performance to Jim:

This year my main motivation for joining Team in Training again was the death of my father, Jim (http://jh44.wordpress.com/). In going back to Nashville and going through the rituals of organizing his things I came across numerous reminders of his commitment to volunteerism and helping others. I always knew this about him but was still shocked at the range of causes he contributed to and the devotion he exhibited in working for them. He is my inspiration and guide in this effort.

Memorial Art

Heidi Weigel is another volunteer at the Literacy Council and knew Jim and consulted him about pricing art work for sale. IN the piece she did a mosaic of Jim in tile and she does portraits that way. She has an MBA in finance and like Jim was, she is very multi-talented. I will attach the list of symbols that Heidi had me type up, that explains her thoughts about the piece.

Update – Johnny mentioned that it was the presidential inaugural letterhead that Jim drew, not a re-election campaign letterhead as stated in the article.

A memorial gathering to celebrate Jim Hsieh’s life

A memorial gathering to celebrate Jim Hsieh’s life will be held, Saturday, February 2, 2008, 2PM, St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church, 4800 Belmont Park Terrace, Nashville, TN. Also – checks can be sent directly to the Literacy Council at:

Sad news

January 28, 2008

img_0307.jpg

It is with deep sadness that I report that my friend Jim Hsieh passed on this week. Jim died suddenly, at home in Williamson County, and apparently without suffering.

Jim’s family and friends are developing a memorial service. The tentative date is Saturday February 2, 2008.

I have taken over this blog of Jim’s to use it as a information source for the memorial service and as a tribute to Jim. We are gathering images, music, and memories to post here and to include in the memorial gathering. Please send anything you would like to share to millergh@gmail.com or post comments to this blog.

Update – I have begun adding photos and images to a FriendsOfJimHsieh flickr account. You can click on the flickr images Drawings, Paintings, and Photos link on the right of this page to view all the sets. Please add comments to the images if you like. Images are kept in sets according to the source.
