  1. Barry Buxkamper Says:

    Dear Jim,

During 30 years of friendship we consoled each other when my daughter and your son died just several years apart; we raised many a glass before during and after Beer Camp; and we giggled like girls, made-up atrocious puns (your favorite kind) and sang Everly Brothers songs (you like an angel, me off pitch) while painting three murals together.

And now there’s no more. And you’re not here to console me.

I loved you then and I’ll love you still,
    Barry

Jim was the embodiment of “Embrace life with happiness, humility, honor, humor and Heart.” You made me laugh and I’m grateful for the intersection of our pathes.

I’ve known Jimmy since high school in 1960, and have been privileged to have many memories of our times together. We had a small graduating class, only 36. When I was able to find 24 of them, we all met in 1989 at Long Beach and it was an amazing, awesome event. Our “60’s kids’ have met many times since, and Jim was someone to look forward to seeing any time he could join us! Jim had this wonderful way of making every friend feel as though they were his best friend. We’re both guitar players; but besides writing songs, I tried to pull him into my world of barbershop singing but he would have none of it! (The Barbershop Harmony Society Headquarters IS in Nashville). Nevertheless, I got him to record 6 songs with me in a duet and the collection is one of my enduring treasures. I gave a copy of the resulting CD to his son Brent at the memorial services. Jim is so irreplaceable-we have lost a great gem. I’ll never forget the story he told at his dear mother’s memorial service. He left Bangkok, where we both went to ISB, on a boat, and as it drew further from the dock, his mother’s apparent size shrunk until she was just a dot on the horizon. Yet, said he: “I had faith that I would one day see her again. And sure enough, after college, I did. And as surely as I stand here today by her coffin, I know that I shall see her once again.” There was not a dry eye in the church. I believe he sees her now, and in this narrow context, I hope he is as happy as he is unburdened from the surly bonds of earthly life. Rest in Peace, dear friend.

A single day still does not pass without at least one amazing memory of you my dear friend.
